Thomas Roberts

Thomas Roberts, a founding Texpert and our Chief Product Officer, studied Philosophy and Theology at Oxford. So naturally he went to The City to seek his fortune, becoming a financial analyst in the investment banking arm of UBS. The reality fell slightly short of the thrill-ride lifestyle promised on the brochure, and he sought a more stimulating, perilous calling in the form of a start-up. Ever the realist, he started plotting with Sarah McVittie to set up a question answering service, and they brought their cunning plans to fruition in August 2003, leaving the city firmly behind.

These days, Thomas concentrates on the question-answering service itself, and everything to do with it (which resulted in his Star-Wars-like title of CPO). In reality it means that if you don’t like an answer we give you (rare we hope) it’s his fault, and if you love one, he deserves a small amount of praise. He heroically pulls together the Texperts and the technology that we’ve built to create a great system that pleases everyone, Texters and Texperts alike!

Thomas is a self-confessed mobile phone tart, and has burned through over 12 handsets in a single year. Impressive! But slightly worrying, especially considering how many met watery graves in pints of beer. Thomas likes his gadgets, so he reads the Hardware section on El Reg all the time; but his true passion on the web, the light of any less-than-perfect day, is Achewood. Start here, and read a few. Anyone want to set up a ChatSacks start-up?
