At the prestigious British Business Angels Association awards dinner on 12 June 2006, 82ASK won an award for the Best Angel backed Business with Young Management. 82ASK enables anyone on any of the 6 UK mobile networks to text any question to 82275 (82ASK on the mobile handset) and receive an accurate answer in minutes. Formed in 2003, 82ASK is a privately held company backed by its founders and angel investors. David Lester, Managing Director of Crimson Publishing, presented 82ASK CEO Sarah McVittie with the award.
The BBAA awards recognise businesses that have made significant contributions to the development of the angel investment market and Small and Medium Enterprise growth in the past year. The award dinner featured a keynote address from Lucius Cary, and emphasised how angel investors foster innovation and entrepreneurship in the UK. 82ASK emerged as winners from an exceptional group of competitors, which included software developers and media distribution companies. On winning the award, McVittie said,
We are all delighted at 82ASK to have won the award, and it is great to get recognition from the British Business Angels Association for our achievements so far — we would not be where we are today without the incredible support that we have had from our angel investors.
